The two forms trip people up constantly: cheques print the 5-digit transit number first, but electronic transfers want a leading zero, then the institution, then the transit. This tool converts between them.
There is no published check digit, so a well-formed number is not necessarily an issued one.
Paysavo does not publish the Payments Canada institutions file, so this page does not name the bank or the branch.
Confirm the account name and number with your recipient directly, using a channel you already trust. If payment details arrive by email and differ from what you were expecting, treat that as a warning sign and call the person on a number you looked up yourself rather than one in the message.
